Texas Ethics Commission Dismisses Complaint Against Supreme Court Justice Hecht

The Texas Ethics Commission recently dismissed a complaint filed a year ago by Texas Watch against Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht. The complaint alleged that Hecht illegally paid for multiple trips to his hometown with political contributions. As the law has been interpreted, judges are currently banned “from using campaign donations for the costs of commuting between their home cities and the city where the court is located.” However, the issue becomes tricky because Hecht, while living in Travis County, also has a home in Dallas.
