VIDEO: Rep. Gallego Stands Up for Coastal Families and Businesses

June 16th, 2011

The debate over the House version of the Special Session windstorm insurance bill (HB 3) centered on one key issue: will TWIA face penalties if it fails to process claims fairly and promptly? This is a fundamental issue of accountability.  HB 3 eliminates key policyholder protections, including penalties if TWIA engages in unfair claims handling.  Rep. Pete Gallego offered an amendment that would restore these penalties and took an impassioned stance on the House floor, speaking up for the basic idea that insurance providers should be accountable to their policyholders. Watch Rep. Gallego’s speech.
