Higher-ups at the Texas Department of Insurance has granted a request to hold a hearing to talk about a double-digit rate hike by State Farm Lloyd’s.

An administrative law judge will conduct the hearing, which was requested by Deeia Beck, the head of the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.

The insurance department’s agreement to hold a hearing based on Beck’s request came a day before state Sen. Kelly Hancock, R-Fort Worth, filed a bill to abolish the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.
