Insurance Appraisal Recommendations Submitted to TDI

Insurance appraisal can help to resolve disputes about the cost to repair or replace property. Texans deserve an insurance appraisal process that is fast, fair, and free from gamesmanship. Today, families may face long delays, rising costs, and procedural traps that allow insurers to stall or control the outcome. 

The Texas Department of Insurance is currently evaluating a rule to create standard appraisal procedures and deadlines. Last week, Executive Director Ware Wendell testified before Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford about the need for fair appraisal, and we submitted these written recommendations for their consideration. A rule with clear deadlines and proper procedures will help to protect policyholders in our state.
