Safety Comments Submitted to Senate Committee on Transportation

The Texas Senate Committee on Transportation met recently to discuss a number of important issues, including autonomous vehicle technology and commercial driver licensing standards. 

We provided written comments to the Committee, emphasizing the need to collect more information on autonomous vehicles, improve state enforcement authority, close gaps in the law, and assess whether current liability insurance requirements are sufficient to protect the public. With respect to commercial driver licenses, we encouraged the Committee to require annual covert monitoring of CDL providers and require the Department of Public Safety to report this information to the state. 

Texas has the most dangerous roads in the nation when it comes to large trucks, and we must take steps to protect lives.
