Groups Call on Governor Abbott to Put Consumers First

Today, three leading consumer groups -- the Consumer Federation of America, Texas Watch, TexPIRG -- sent a letter to Governor Abbott, asking him to appoint a new insurance commissioner who will put consumers first. This decision is even more critical during the pandemic when so many households are hurting financially. 

The insurance commissioner occupies an exceptionally-powerful position because their decisions impact every Texan in one way or another. Many of the insurance products they regulate must be purchased by policyholders as a matter of law, lending practices, or necessity, placing them in a vulnerable position as consumers. We need an insurance commissioner who will fight to ensure policyholders aren't price gouged or cheated out of coverage.
