Protecting Families
After suffering a collision, too many insurance companies are inserting themselves into the repair process and pressuring professionals in some body shops to cut corners in order to pad insurers’ profits. This is a safety issue for every one of us on the roads. If vehicles are not repaired properly -- according to manufacturer requirements -- catastrophic dangers could result. As consumers, we can see if body panels have been straightened and buffed, but we have no idea if our vehicles have been repaired correctly underneath. If substandard parts are used or steps are not followed precisely, your vehicle could be a rolling death trap for you and your family. Every Texan should have the right to a quality repair, made in a quality repair shop of your choice, using quality parts – without insurance companies bullying us. Please support HB 1131 by Rep. Travis Clardy. Safe repairs save lives!
Holding Wrongdoers Accountable--Oppose HB 19 & SB 17
Texans deserve the safest roads possible whether they are driving to work or traveling to see family. The rules of the road are an agreement that we make with one another to protect life. When those rules are broken and someone is needlessly harmed, our courts are there to help balance the scales of justice and ensure costs are allocated appropriately. We must ensure our duties to one another are honored. This is especially true with trucking collisions, which can cause catastrophic injuries. Those who have been harmed should be able to learn about the full extent of the wrongdoing that has upended their lives so they can seek justice under the law. In doing so, they protect all of us on the road.
Take one minute to tell your lawmaker to oppose HB 19 & SB 17, which will have devastating impacts for Texas families.
Recovering Your Costs
Insurance companies know you are vulnerable after a wreck, and they can take advantage of you in your time of need. Predatory insurance tactics known as “Swoop and Settle” schemes trick many unsuspecting Texans into giving up their rights before they know the full extent of their damages. A wrongly-decided appellate court decision makes the oral release of your claims enforceable against you. That means an insurance adjuster could call you on the phone right after a wreck and get you to waive your rights in exchange for an insufficient amount of money, dangling a quick check in front of you that won't cover your full costs. This could happen before your doctor has even had a chance to evaluate your condition and before you know how long you’ll be out of work. You could end up holding the bag. These schemes must be brought to an end because they impose costs on unsuspecting families and our healthcare system. HB 1793 by Rep. Julie Johnson fixes this and stops the vulture culture of insurance abuse. Please tell your lawmakers to support HB 1793 today!
